Enjoy a Weekend Camping Trip
Camping is a lost art. Im not talking about the use of RVs or trailers. Im talking about more rustic camping. For many, the idea of calling a weekend spent in a trailer or RV camping is utter nonsense. Yes, RVs can be fun, but if youve never tried camping with tents and sleeping bags, it is about time that you did.
Camping can be done in rustic parks that have no or few amenities. Bathrooms and showers really are optional. Many people enjoy roughing it without them. If you choose to do just that, dont forget to bring toilet paper. That may sound crass to you, but believe me; you dont want to be without it. Of course, there are campgrounds with modern bathrooms and showers even if you choose to use tents for sleeping. It is really your preference that matters.
A weekend camping trip can be a great experience in learning how to get along without modern technology and finding new ways of having fun. Todays generation of children may have little concept of life without a cell phone, music player, TV or video games. It wont hurt them to spend a few days without these things. In fact, once they try it, most of them will love it.
To be sure you have everything you need, check online for a checklist to use for packing. You will need implements for cooking as well as tents, sleeping bags, first aid kits, clothing and other equipment. Always have an itinerary planned when you go camping and give a copy of the itinerary to a neighbor, friend or relative. This is a safety issue and should never be forgotten.
Some of the activities considered hokey or uncool involved with camping are truly enjoyable once you try them. Singing and telling stories around a campfire are highly under-rated. Roasting marshmallows and hot dogs on sticks and scaring each other with ghost stories is popular for a reason - It is FUN!
If youve never been camping without modern conveniences, give it a try. If you dont, youll never know what youve been missing. It is an inexpensive and enjoyable experience for those of all ages.
