Distance to airport. The closer your hotel is to the airport the less you'll have to travel on the day of your flight. That means extra time in bed, extra time preparing or extra time having your breakfast. However, you'll pay a premium for the privilege. The hotels located closest to the airport are nearly always significantly more expensive than those slightly further down the road.

Is it worth paying the extra?

Probably not. Nearly all airport hotels offer a free shuttle service to your chosen terminal, so you don't have to worry about arranging transfers if you're not within walking distance. So if you're on a budget, then it really isn't going to make much difference to stay a mile further away and your money will go much further.

Convenience. If you're travelling to the hotel by car, do they offer a service to look after your vehicle whilst you're away? If you're travelling by train, is the hotel within walking distance of the station? Do you get a complimentary breakfast? Are there additional charges for transfers to the airport? All of these things should be factored into your thinking when trying to pick the right hotel. The more convenient everything is for your travel situation, the less you have to worry and if you're on a holiday, you certainly won't want any additional stress.

Compare. Once you've tracked down the perfect airport hotel, which is within your budget and ticks all the convenience boxes you should just go ahead and book it, right?

Wrong.

Search as many online providers of hotel rooms as you can until you find the cheapest price. Most people are shocked when they realise the difference in price between the cheapest and most expensive rates for the same rooms.
