Sample Car Hire Tour - Cape Town, South Africa

The master of your own itinerary, you can navigate your way round the roads of this majestic region to take in all the main attractions in good time, without the hassle of chopping and changing from bus to train to foot and back again. Check out our sample guide to see what Cape Town has to offer behind the wheel:

The city is truly blessed with colourful and diverse wildlife resorts, exhilarating landscapes and a throng of buzzing streets and shopping areas. Grab your car at Cape Town Downtown and hit the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront for a spot of shopping and some stunning ocean views. From here you can get the catamaran to and from the famous old Robben Island prison complex. You'll also find plenty of upmarket shopping malls and boutiques around, as well as the enthralling Two Oceans Aquarium

Just off the V & A waterfront is Beach Road; drive along here to take in the sand, sea and bronzed bodies, or stop for a round of golf at links course Fort Wynard (check out this handy map for details). From here you can circle back down to the Western Boulevard and onto the N1. Turn off at the M62 (thats Buitengracht Street) and follow the road for several kilometres down to the Tefelberg Road turn off, where youll arrive at the incredible Table Mountain (which you can climb by cable car).

Also located in the area is the vibrant Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, set against the slope of the mountain itself, and the spectacular Cape Peninsula National Park (also known as the Table Mountain National Park).

Once you get back down to the foot of Table Mountain, drive back onto the M62 and continue southbound along Camps Bay Drive and onto Victoria Drive (M6). This coastal route takes you alongside the Cape Peninsula National Park (to your left) and down towards Hout Bay, home to many of Cape Towns dolphin population.

Once youve seen the sights of the bay, pick up the Hout Bay Road (M63) and take a right along the M41 after 3 km. This will take you through the beautiful vineyards of the Constantia Winelands. Then its simply a case of jumping on the M3 to get back to the city centre!

Of course this is just a sample guide, theres plenty more to see in the Cape Town region, and as long as youve got a car by your side you can see it all in your own good time!
