Cruises From Spain

Over the last three decades Barcelona Spain has become one of Europe's biggest and most trafficked Cruise ports.

Because of its unique position overlooking the popular Mediterranean, most cruises from Spain leaving Barcelona are Mediterranean cruises visiting other ports in Spain, Turkey, Italy (notably Rome and Venice), France, and Greece (Athens).

Several transatlantic voyages also depart from the city, and a limited number of northern European itineraries also originate from this northern Mediterranean port.

An estimated 700,000 cruise passengers visit Barcelona aboard more than 500 ships each year, making Barcelona the busiest cruise port in the Mediterranean. It isn't ususual for a dozen ships to be in port at the height of the summer season.

Cruise ships are generally moored at either of the following locations, with berths being assigned on the day of arrival:

Muella de Adosado, a long quay in the industrial port with several berths and cruise terminals. Allow 20 or 30 minutes to walk from your ship to the Barcelona waterfront over the high bridge, plus another 5 minutes to the popular Ramblas pedestrian street (which is just beyond the Columbus Column and the waterfront park). Taxis are usually available, and--if you're lucky--the Portbs will be running between the cruise terminals and downtown. (Portbs fares were 1,50 one-way and 2 roundtrip when I last checked.)

Estaci Maritima, which can accommodate two or more cruise ships when ferry schedules permit. The maritime station's berths are between the waterfront and the Torre Jaime I cablecar tower, within a 5-minute walk of the Ramblas and downtown

Voyage lengths range from 3 to 15 nights, with the majority being seven-night cruises from Barcelona of both one-way and round-trip itineraries. Shorter options are nearly always roundtrip from Barcelona with only one or two ports of call, while seven day voyages offer a great range of destinations to choose from.
